Spicy's Gewürzmuseum is an interactive museum all about spices, set on an original warehouse floor in Hamburg's UNESCO-listed Speicherstadt. On around 350 m², more than 900 exhibits from the last five centuries show how spices are grown, harvested, processed and traded – and you're encouraged to smell, touch and taste along the way. Why Visit Spicy's Spice Museum?

More than 900 exhibits on around 350 m² trace the journey of spices from field to table. Antique tools, original packaging and historical documents tell tales of sailors, smugglers and colonial powers across five centuries.

The museum sits on an original floor of a historic warehouse in the Speicherstadt – the world's largest warehouse complex and a UNESCO World Heritage Site – linking the story of spices with Hamburg's trading past.

Join a special tour with actor Tobias Brüning as the 19th-century spice merchant Jacob Lange, or book one of the museum's events – from spice talks to a Ringelnatz poetry reading on a harbour barge through the evening Speicherstadt.

The museum's shop sells its own spices and blends alongside other spicy products. It's open daily and you can visit without a museum ticket – perfect for taking the flavours home.

By Car

Street parking in the Speicherstadt is very limited. Your best bet is one of the car parks in the Speicherstadt and HafenCity, a short walk from the museum.

On Foot

From the city centre, the Speicherstadt is about a 15-minute walk. If you're already near the Elbphilharmonie, the museum is just a few minutes away.
